Aviation Law

Our aviation attorneys offer clients a wide array of services in both the regulatory, commercial and general aviation fields. We regularly appear before the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the U.S. Customs Service. However, much of our work is "behind the scenes." On both the commercial and general aviation sides, we negotiate and document aircraft and other equipment sales and lease transactions, as well as the myriad of contractual matters faced by every aircraft operator and owner.

We have become the leading firm in business aircraft transactions and the tax implications thereof. Our general aviation practice group represents virtually every major fractional ownership program organized in the United States, the world's largest management and charter companies, FBO's the flight departments of Fortune 500 corporations, private aircraft operators, and aircraft brokers and dealers.

Strategic planning is one of our recognized strengths. We have provided services in connection with the sale of companies, the raising of capital for new aircraft ventures, and the identification of a suitable "target" for acquisition. We devise follow-up strategies, provide valuation expertise, create pro forma financial projections, and redefine business models to maximize market penetration. We help new entrants to the market create alliances with long standing players to assist in maximizing prospective business opportunities.

Our aviation practice not only requires extensive knowledge of aviation law and regulation; it also entails a thorough understanding of the industry, its focus and direction in the broadest sense. We provide advice on buying, selling and leasing of aircraft, acquisition and disposition of airlines, management and charter operations, FBOs, as well as the federal and state tax ramifications inherent in these transactions. We have represented our clients with respect to DOT, FAA, and NTSB enforcement matters, pilot license revocations, discipline, noise issues and contested route proceedings.

The unrivaled depth of experience offered by the firm's aviation attorneys is a value-added feature for our clients. When a client has an aviation issue, we do not need to be educated with respect to the industry's special vocabulary, its unique history or current trends. This familiarity frequently reveals that what first appeared to be a major issue may not be a problem at all - and may even be turned into an opportunity. It also permits us to develop creative, practical solutions to aviation-related issues.
