The firm has acquired significant experience in matters related to the expanding gaming industry in the United States. One of the Firms's principals serves as general counsel to The Maryland Jockey Club, the oldest sporting association in the United States, formed in 1743. Through its Pimlico Race Course (the home of The Preakness®, the middle jewel of racing's Triple Crown®) and Laurel Park, The Maryland Jockey Club conducts year-round thoroughbred racing. The services performed for these and other pari-mutuel facilities (both racetracks and off-track betting facilities) have included obtaining initial state licensing in several jurisdictions; overseeing compliance with state and federal laws; and preparing racing legislation and working for its passage. Attorneys in the firm are experienced in virtually all aspects of pari-mutuel gaming. The firm also has experience in structuring, from both business and tax standpoints, the acquisition and operation of gaming facilities. These activities include working with financial institutions to satisfy them as to regulatory and other concerns.
