Legislative and Government Relations

GKG Law's practice in legislative affairs and government relations draws on the firm's established presence in Washington, D.C. and national reputation. GKG Law helps its clients fashion public policy arguments and appropriately focused legislative solutions that discretely and efficiently satisfy their needs. This routinely involves effective communication with Congress and key policymakers in the Presidential administration and numerous federal governmental agencies, such as the Surface Transportation Board, Federal Maritime Commission, Department of Justice, Department of Labor, Department of Health and Human Services, Federal Trade Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Food and Drug Administration, Internal Revenue Service and Department of Agriculture. This low-profile intervention is often a very cost-effective way to deal with issues before they become problems.

We continually monitor and anticipate developing trends in Congress and federal agencies, and provide our clients with timely information about government activities that may affect their interests.

We have strong ties with members of Congress and their professional staff who exert substantial influence over antitrust, transportation and trade issues. We have substantial experience in developing effective lobbying strategies and preparing briefing materials for use by Congressional committees, departments, or independent agencies. We draft legislation, Congressional committee reports, floor statements, and Congressional correspondence for use by Members and Congressional staff. In addition, we prepare written statements and deliver oral testimony for Congressional committee hearings.

Prior to arranging appointments with high-level government or Congressional leaders, we lay the necessary groundwork with their staff. Presentations are based on sound public policy arguments and they are backed by the credibility of our firm’s attorneys, many of whom have extensive government experience.
