Tax Controversies with the IRS

Our attorneys assist a vast array of non-profit clients subject to IRS examinations and other tax controversies by successfully representing them at every stage of the IRS examination and appeals process, and by representing clients in State and municipal audits of local income, sales, use, and excise taxes. GKG Law’s Association Practice Group also represents clients in litigation with the IRS on a variety of issues, including initial and ongoing recognition of tax-exempt status, income tax deficiencies, interest and penalties, and excise taxes. In addition to our successful representation before the IRS, we identify opportunities to avoid litigation by taking advantage of other available administrative remedies, including obtaining IRS rulings such as Technical Advice Memoranda and negotiating closing agreements with the IRS.
